AYANA THERAPY
Ayanatherapy.com
They strive to address the strong lack of engage-
ment between minorities and the mental health care in-
dustry which arises as a result of cost, stigma, and lack of
cultural competency. They achieve this by matching users
with licensed professionals that share their unique traits,
values, and sensibilities. It allows for flexible, convenient,
and anonymous online communication (text, call, and vid-
eo call) and address barriers to care such as transporta-
tion issues busy schedules and mobility challenges that
people may face.
As Caribbean nationals, we know more than
anyone about the stigma surrounding mental ill-
ness in the Caribbean culture. Just because we are
no longer living in the Caribbean, doesn’t mean
that the stigma isn’t still there. And just because
traditionally we are not inclined to seek mental
health assistance, doesn’t mean we don’t need it.
So when we finally make that difficult decision to
get help for our struggles knowing that the person
we are talking with fully understands who we are
and where we are coming from, can make the pro-
cess less stressful.

ONLINE DIRECTORY OF PROVIDERS
There is no distinction at this directory between
the professional Christian therapist and the profes-
sional therapist who is a practicing Christian: Some
of the therapists listed in this directory are well
known in their community as professional Christian
therapists. Others listed here are more recognized
as professional therapist who are Christians. We
have also permitted the listings of credentialed
pastoral counselors. The therapy seeker is expected
to review the credentials and specialties of all the
highly qualified professionals in this directory and
INSTITUTE OF MUSLIM MENTAL HEALTH
muslimmentalhealth.com
Since 2006, the Institute for Muslim Mental Health
(IMMH) has been mobilizing mental health profes-
sionals interested in caring for Muslims to exchange
resources, disseminate original research on Muslim
mental health, trained professionals and community
leaders, mentored students and young profession-
als, and connected American Muslims to mental
health services.
NATIONAL QUEER & TRANS THERAPIST OF
COLOR NETWORK
NQTTCN.COM
National Queer and Trans Therapists of Color
Network (NQTTCN) is a healing justice organ-
ization committed to transforming mental
health for queer and trans people of color
(QTPoC). They envision a world where all
people have access to healing resources
rooted in social justice and liberation to re-
cover from trauma, violence, and systemic
oppression. We specifically acknowledge the
harm and violence perpetuated by the medi-
cal-industrial complex and actively work to
both intervene directly on this system as well
as create new systems of care for our com-
munities.
OPEN PATH PSYCHOTHERAPY COLLECTIVE
OPENCOLLECTIVE.COM
Open Path Psychotherapy Collective is a non-profit na-
tionwide network of mental health professionals dedi-
cated to providing in-office mental health care, at a
steeply reduced rate, to individuals, couples, children,
and families in need.
OpenCounseling
OpenCounseling.com
Fewer than half the people struggling with mental health
receive the services they need. OpenCounseling is trans-
forming mental health by giving people the information
they need to find affordable treatment where they live.
While we believe America needs to invest more in men-
tal health care, we know many affordable options al-
ready exist that are unfortunately hidden from view. We
believe information about these options should be more
widely available and that it shouldn’t be hard to find for
the people who need it most. We want to make it easier
for people to find and use local mental health resources.
TRAP THERAPIST DIRECTORY
TRAPTHERAPIST.COM
Trap Therapists provides a platform for mental health
therapists from urban, low-oncome backgrounds to
share their stories, connect with other “trap thera-
pists”, and market their services from potential clients
also from marginalized communities. Trap Therapist
confronts the reality that all minority therapists have-
n’t experienced life below the poverty level or lived in
environments rich with violence and crime. Currently,
Trap Therapist offers statement apparel, cultural com-
petency trainings for mental health professionals, a ra-
dio show, and a directory featuring licensed private
practice clinicians who also identify as trap therapists.
THERAPY FOR BLACK GIRLS

PrEP
• A once-daily pill that helps prevent HIV up to 99% when used
alongside other protection methods (like condoms).
• It is for anyone who is:
o HIV-negative, but is sexually active and wants to prevent HIV
o At high risk for being exposed to HIV (through sexual contact or
injection drug use)
PEP (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis)
• PEP stands for post-exposure prophylaxis, meaning you take it if you
are HIV-negative after you’ve possibly been exposed to HIV
(experienced a high-risk exposure to HIV-infection)
• PEP must be taken within the 72 hours (3 days) of possible HIV
exposure, but the sooner the better. This medication must be
continued for 4 weeks following the high-risk exposure
• PEP is not a substitute for PrEP.
Helpful reminders:
PreP helps you PrEPare
PEP you should put some PEP in your step to get checked out
Palliative Care
Palliative care a division of healthcare dedicated to individuals with chronic,
long-term illnesses, including HIV. It is most commonly associated with
end-of-life care via hospice, but this is only a small portion of all palliative
care offers.
Palliative care offers:
• Long-term, person-centered care
• Mental health resources
• Pain management
• Advanced care planning
While palliative care options are not provided in this guide, palliative care
can be helpful to integrate into a healthcare regimen for individuals
diagnosed with HIV
RWC is a federally funded program that provides HIV care and treatment
services to low-income HIV+ individuals. It also works to improve health
outcomes and reduce HIV transmission of those with HIV. This is done so
any person who does not have insurance will always be covered to receive
the care they need if HIV+.
There are different parts of RWC that you can become eligible for as a way
to help cover the cost of any HIV-related care. These parts are referred to
as Part A, Part B, Part C, etc.—they all cover different HIV-related services.
Part B and Part C are the relevant parts of funding that include healthcare
coverage for HIV+ individuals. For assistance affording HIV care and to
obtain RWC funding, an individual must apply for Part B and Part C
funding. Applications can often be completed with the assistance from the
HIV clinic you receive HIV healthcare services from.
Part B
• HIV/AIDS primary medical care, essential support services, and
medications for eligible residents.
Part C
• HIV counseling (education and mental health), HIV case
management, regular HIV testing, periodic medical evaluations,
therapeutic measures for preventing and treating the deterioration of
the immune system and any conditions arising from HIV, and
referrals (to healthcare providers and support services)
Group Therapy vs Support Groups
Group therapy refers to a group of individuals who gather to work through
their traumas or live experiences as a result of HIV. The purpose of therapy
is to grow and process life events. Group therapy typically would meet in a
central setting at regular times.
Support groups are typically less formal and more social than group
therapy with the goal to connect and cope instead of working through the
difficulties of an HIV diagnosis. HIV support groups provide many people
the means to share experiences, seek advice and referrals, and receive
support from others who fully understand what they are going through.
Support groups may be available online or in person and meet in less
standard settings.

Mental Health Services (Specific to HIV)
Mental Health services on this list include organizations offering types of counseling or
therapy (e.g., individual, group) specialized for individuals with HIV. This list does not
specifically include psychiatric services that provide medication assistance for mental
health needs, but some organizations listed may offer psychiatry as a service in addition
to counseling/therapy.
The goal of therapy is to help individuals grow and work through an HIV diagnosis or
other life events. Counselors with an HIV specialty can help people diagnosed with HIV
work through their diagnoses or other unrelated parts of their lives, while using an HIV-
informed approach.

Support Groups aim to help members cope. These groups are usually nonprofessional
and provide support for members with a similar characteristic (e.g., HIV diagnosis,
family member with an HIV diagnosis, mothers with HIV). Support groups often share
coping strategies and empower each other to create a sense of community.
Support groups are typically less formal than group therapy with the goal to connect and
cope instead of working through the difficulties of an HIV diagnosis. HIV support groups
are vital for many people living with HIV, providing them the means to share
experiences, seek advice and referrals, and receive support from others who fully
understand what they are going through.

Warmlines are an alternative to crisis lines if you’re not in an immediate crisis but still want to
talk to someone and receive emotional support. They’re usually free and confidential and are
staffed by peers who have dealt with mental health issues themselves. Most warmlines were
designed to be state-specific or local, though some accept out-of-state calls and cover a

TN WARMLINES _______________________________________________________
Warmlines are an alternative to crisis lines if you’re not in an immediate crisis but still want to
talk to someone and receive emotional support. They’re usually free and confidential and are
staffed by peers who have dealt with mental health issues themselves. Most warmlines were
designed to be state-specific or local, though some accept out-of-state calls and cover a
national service area.

Navigating Language HIV-Related
PrEP
• A once-daily pill that helps prevent HIV up to 99% when used
alongside other protection methods (like condoms).
• It is for anyone who is:
o HIV-negative, but is sexually active and wants to prevent HIV
o At high risk for being exposed to HIV (through sexual contact or
injection drug use)
PEP (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis)
• PEP stands for post-exposure prophylaxis, meaning you take it if you
are HIV-negative after you’ve possibly been exposed to HIV
(experienced a high-risk exposure to HIV-infection)
• PEP must be taken within the 72 hours (3 days) of possible HIV
exposure, but the sooner the better. This medication must be
continued for 4 weeks following the high-risk exposure
• PEP is not a substitute for PrEP.
Helpful reminders:
PreP helps you PrEPare
PEP you should put some PEP in your step to get checked out
Palliative Care
Palliative care a division of healthcare dedicated to individuals with chronic,
long-term illnesses, including HIV. It is most commonly associated with
end-of-life care via hospice, but this is only a small portion of all palliative
care offers.
Palliative care offers:
• Long-term, person-centered care
• Mental health resources
• Pain management
• Advanced care planning
While palliative care options are not provided in this guide, palliative care
can be helpful to integrate into a healthcare regimen for individuals
diagnosed with HIV.
Ryan White Care (RWC)
